ALL ABOUT ME

[edit | edit source]

I am a native of Virginia. I was born and currently reside in Norfolk, but grew up in Hampton and Newport News. I am a Junior at Old Dominion University pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. My passion is to work with students with learning disabilities while teaching in a general education classroom. The majority of my time is spent working full-time while also being a full-time student. Though challenging, I have been able to gain much experience in the education field. My three jobs include: a Teaching Assistant in the infant classroom at the Child Development Center, the head of a tutoring program in Newport News, and a Personal Attendant for a child with Autism. Anything involving children brings me joy, and having a lasting impact on a child's life is very important to me.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

[edit | edit source]

My philosphy of education is centered around making education available to everyone. Whether students are disable in some way or exceptionally gifted, the entire spectrum of students' learning capacity should be addressed. Therefore, teachers are given the responsibility of making sure that the information is presented in a way that all students can comprehend. If that step does not occur, then learning will ultimately fail. So, not only should there be standards for learning, but there should be opportunities to apply everyday situation to the lesson plan. Students should be actively involved in the classroom because that ultimately is how they will have the most rewarding and beneficial expereince. Every person comes in contact with some form of a teacher, I want to teach so that my students are able to teach others as well.

Hello Trenice. It is hard to believe with everything on your plate you have managed to have the time to make this wikibooks page. Your page and writing style is friendly and thought provoking. I enjoyed that fact that you like so many other teachers see the variety of children we will all manage to face each day and teach. Working with children with Autism gives you a unique and rewarding perspective in the journey you are taking to become a teacher. Children are all special and all have a unique vision of the world they participate in, as teachers I hope we find the keys to each student that inspires their love of learning.Vguti001 (talk) 22:52, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
