Evidence in success[edit | edit source]

Success is a large topic nowadays. Indeed, it can mean different things for people as it has many definitions. Success is defined by the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. It undeniably lets you define your own success as it’s based on your personal dreams and goals in life. What exactly makes a person successful in life? Is there evidence that someone is successful?

Quantitative Evidence Most people equate success with wealth, fame and power. In this case, success can be quantified by looking at a certain salary (successful by being wealthy), or a certain number of followers (successful by being famous)... You can therefore try to put a number on success.

Qualitative Evidence However, wealthy or famous people can feel unsuccessful. Indeed, success truly depends on your opinion and the way you regard a successful life. Hence success is a subjective notion and is relative: some may define it as being loving and caring partner and parent, or simply pursuing their dream. In any case, we all want to achieve success whatever success means to each of us. Perception of success is somewhat subjective: there can be a disconnection between the external perceived success of a person and the way he feels about his own achievements. To be successful, one shouldn’t compare his own life to other people’s lives but should be satisfied with his own success compared to his set goals.

Successful people may be different, but all have similar skills as reaching success demands specific abilities. These include not being afraid of making hard decisions, working hard, accepting to fail to eventually succeed as success doesn’t come easily, being able to adjust to changes, accepting to take risks and finally, being self-confident. Most importantly, one can be successful if he can set real but ambitious goals he can accomplish and if he knows how to plan his success by finding a purpose in his life. Many observers would define a successful person in life when combining personal life’s and career’s success even though many people would be satisfied with being successful with only one of them.

Conclusion To conclude, success is a tricky notion, as it is extremely subjective, but there is evidence that helps define it. Depending on its definition, it can be quantitative or qualitative evidence. Each person makes their own opinion on what they want their life to look like, and act upon this.
