About the Author

My name is Kerri (username kmayx003). I live in Chesapeake, VA and I attend Old Dominion University. I am working towards a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I want to be an elementary school teacher. I am 21 years old. In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, shopping, and going to the beach. I am your typical poor college student, and I still live at home with my parents. I am currently engaged to a wonderful guy and we are planning to get married in a couple of years. I have two cats, Pickles and Pebbles, and I love them to death. I currently work in retail, and I hate it.

I have always loved children, and it has always been a dream of mine to become a teacher. I have so many thoughts and ideas about how a good teacher should act. When I become a teacher, I hope to be an inspiration to my students. I hope to teach them the importance of knowledge and pursuing an education. I hope to encourage them to follow their dreams, regardless of who they are, or where they come from. I will teach my students that with hard work and dedication, they can do anything they want to do.

I will, to the best of my ability, treat all my students equally-regardless of color, sex, background, attitude, etc. I intend to make learning fun whenever possible, with interactive learning and incorporation of new technology. I will, depending on my classroom resources, allow my students to use computers from time-to-time. I believe that students must learn to use technology early on, to keep up with our fast-paced society. I also want to encourage positive thinking within my classroom. I want my students to enjoy coming to class.

I will provide all kind of learning- lecture, group, and individual. I will make sure that I use different learning methods, such as hand-on, demonstrations, or active participation in activities, because I understand that all students learn in different ways. I plan to have parental involvement in the classroom, and to try and coordinate some lessons with the physical education teacher to get kids up and moving. I will ensure that my children get their recess, because I believe in providing adequate free play time for children as a learning process.

As always, our children are the future. And as a prospective teacher, I both understand and accept the responsibility that I have to education and to my students. I know that it is going to be a lot of hard work, but I also know that my students will be counting on me, and I will try my hardest to be a great teacher.
