About Me
I was born in Saudi Arabia in 1977, my father was civil service for the Army Corps of Engineers. I have swam in the Red Sea, of course I do not remember this. I hit 5 continents and 13 countries before the age of two. I began schooling in Catholic Schools and then my parents decided to put me into public schools. I have always had an interest in mathematics and science. I actually planned on being in the Engineering field; however, I married before the end of my senior year of high school. I was blessed to have a beautiful daughter and then soon divorced. I began my college career at Fayetteville Technical Community College, but moved back to VA. After taking about three years off to discover the single mom working world, I then enrolled at Paul D Camp Community College. While at PDCC, I was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa honors society as I was finishing my general education. I took one semester off and enrolled at CNU in the Computer Engineering Department. Eight days before my second semester at CNU, I was blessed to have my son. I was married and have divorced yet again (I am deeply considering being single for the rest of my life). Before the divorce I was forced to withdraw from CNU, I spent two years as a cook. Then, my parents came to my rescue and offered to help me finish school. I spent the next three semesters back at CNU, but I had to get a degree in mathematics because the computer programming language had changed. I took ALL 3 and 400 level mathematics courses to finish my degree, two semesters I had six of them to keep up with. I FINALLY graduated from CNU in December of 2006 with my BS in Math. It was so amazing to finally walk across that stage!!! After finishing my degree, I spent time substituting. During this time is when I decided I would love to have my own classroom. I began teaching high school Algebra 1 in February 2007. I have had the same classroom now for just about two years and LOVE every minute. So now I am a single mother of two children, 13 and 7. I am working on my certification.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that teaching comes from the heart and that a teacher must be fair and consistent. I also find it completely necessary for students to understand that not everyone sees the exact same thing at the exact same time. This belief has lead me to show optical illusions within the first week of school to demonstrate the difference. The children like looking and the pictures and even if they only walk away with just a tad bit more of understanding, it is more than they had before. I believe that a teacher not only teaches the curriculum standards, but so many more life lessons. I absolutely love teaching and never thought about being a teacher as a youngster.
