Jaspal Singh, the author of the wikibook Punjabi is a member of the Indian Administrative Service and is presently serving Punjab (India) Government in the Higher Education and Languages department. He initiated Wikibook project Punjabi for the benefit of those non-natives who want to learn this fascinating language. This effort of the author is amateur in nature and has no connection with his employer or employment.

As of 2008 the author is 47 and lives in Chandigarh. He graduated from SL Bawa DAV College, Batala in 1981 and has been working on various assignments ranging from the Banking Service to the Indian Administrative Service. His interests vary from academics to computers, from history to mathematics and include software development. Gains, a General Accounting and Inventory Management System and CMIS, the College Management Information System are two of his popular works.
