About Me: My name is Heidi LaMendola Nelson. I am 32 years old and have two wonderful children. I have been married for five years to a very hard working man. I have lived in Hampton for most of my life and don't plan on leaving. I love to spend time with my family, go camping and learn new things. I decided to go back to school a few years ago, and figured that if I was going to be spending a few years getting my degree I would get that degree in Education. I have always wanted to be a teacher and decided to follow my dream.

My Education: I just received my Associates degree from Thomas Nelson Community College and transferred to Old Dominion University, my dad's alma mater. Before that I spent thirteen years working in health care, mostly mental health.

My Philosophy: I am not yet sure exactly what my philosophy of teaching is, but I do believe that every child needs and deserves positive reinforcement. I also believe that teachers should help their students by facilitating their learning experience. Every child learns at different paces and in different ways, teachers need to help students to find what methods work for them as individuals.
