Introduction[edit | edit source]

Welcome to the Ificiana Wikibook. Ificiana is an artificial language developed and implemented by a small club formed by a group of highschool students.

It was invented in 2017.

Initially Ificiana was developed as a handy cipher but eventually it developed as a conlang.

It is justified to say Ificiana being a hybrid of a cipher and a conlang. It has its own vocabulary but most of the words are derived from an algorithm defined on English language.

At present, the only prerequisite for the language is English. Currently, the team at the developers, are adapting other languages. It would be likely called by a different name.

As such, Ificiana is for English. And Nederciana for Dutch.

It is well worth remembering that Ificiana is not a fixed language - it is shifting like sand and so these "rules" are in the process of change and are often ignored or bent. It might be disruptive for the learner if some major changes take place.

History[edit | edit source]

Ificiana was made a simple cryptographic artificial language that can be easily encrypted/decrypted, provided that the rules are known!

The history of Ificiana can be dated back to 2011, when a primitive form of encoding called the "Victorian dialect" came into being. Roy used to write his secret thoughts in that language. He claims it not being gibberish and still recalls he had some sort of algorithm.

But unfortunately, due to long un-involvement with the language, He forgot the algorithm. There was no documentations of the rules. and upon seeing my old diaries, he regrets!

The modern Ificiana take its roots from the revival of some old rules and its usage in 2013. Since then if constantly developed. In 2015, Ificiana-4 was developed. In July 2017 Ificiana-6 was developed. Then it entered a rapid developmental phase.

As of today, Ificiana-13 is being developed as a cipher-only algorithm. Ificiana-12 (September 2018) has been developed since then as a hybrid conlang.

In this book, Ificiana-12 algorithm has been implemented. It has evolved into a conlang, so it is unlikely that any drastic change in the algorithm would come in the future.

Usage[edit | edit source]

As mentioned earlier, Ificiana was developed as a handy cipher much similar to Caesar Cipher, but bit more complex. Though it is easy to learn and use.

In December 2018, a proposal came to me about making it a conlang. So Ificiana-12 (Sept. 2018) was evolved into two daughter species

  • The Ificiana Conlang
  • Ificiana-13 (Under development)

Ificiana-13 would be a very difficult cipher by including ideas from Vigenère Cipher

As a language[edit | edit source]

As a language, Ificiana gains its advancement due its reliability on English.

The vocabulary is almost entirely based on "ciphered" English. While some words are unique to Ificiana, not being originated from English.

As an agenda, the developers team is working on Ificiana-13 (mentioned earlier) and Nederciana. I hope you would also love that. Nederciana will be completely based on Dutch language.

Further we are looking for a way out of Latin scripts. The Ificiana algorithm only works with Latin alphabets. This limits its use on language like Russian and Japanese.

Ificiana has its own writing system but currently it is not completely developed. It might not as well, since being in Latin scripts, make it better for popularity.

Pronunciation is a mostly English with some Dutch sounds.
