This page provides several examples how the Bref Template can be used to implement different book reference and citation styles.

Example 1[edit | edit source]

This example demonstrates basic Bref template functionality. The style illustrated is a book with a single references section located at the end of the book with references interspersed in chapter text. The example has three chapters and a references page. A fifth Citations List page is used to hold citation data that is not rendered directly. This example also illustrates the use of a default Citations List Page.

Example 2[edit | edit source]

This example demonstrates how Bref template functionality may be used to format references and citations on a chapter by chapter basis. The style illustrated is a book with two chapters, the first comprised of 3 wiki markup pages, the second comprised of 2 wiki markup pages and each chapter terminated (on its last wiki markup page) by a references section. The example uses two citations list pages: Citations List 1, and Citations List 2 that hold the book's citation data. This example does not use the default Citations List Page.

Example 3[edit | edit source]

This example demonstrates how Bref template functionality may be used to support both citations and footnotes. The example book has two chapters, the first comprised of 3 wiki markup pages, the second comprised of 2 wiki markup pages. The first chapter is organized so that the first page contains links to the other two pages of the chapter. Each chapter is terminated by a footnotes section and all citations for the book are rendered on a separate references page. The example uses three citations list pages, the first two for chapter specific footnotes, Chapter 1 Footnotes, and Chapter 2 Footnotes, and the third Book Citations for the book's citation data.

Example 4[edit | edit source]

This example demonstrates advanced use of Bref. The book comprises 3 chapters. At the end of the first two chapters are references and footnote sections. At the end of the third chapter is a footnotes section. At the end of the book is a master references section that organizes citations by type: 1) Conference papers, 2) Journal articles, and 3) Books. The third chapter references use the master references section in order to illustrate the use of tagged references (in this case, each reference specifies whether it is a Conference Paper (C), a Journal Article (J) or a Book (B)). This example also uses the Place Holder reference in Chapter 1.

The three chapter citation lists are located at Citations List 1, Citations List 2, and Citations List 3. The master references citation list is located at Book Citations List. The three chapter footnote citation lists are located at Chapter 1 Footnotes, Chapter 2 Footnotes, and Chapter 3 Footnotes.
