What's in a name?[edit | edit source]Here are a few of the names for our city: Portland[edit | edit source]In 1851 the name "Portland" was chosen for the the new community near where the Columbia and Willamette rivers meet. It was almost named "Boston"!
Multnomah[edit | edit source]Long before there was Portland, this area was known as the home of the Multnomah people. Multnomah County is named after them. Their leader was Chief Multnomah.
