Shakespeare's Macbeth:--Aqsamotahhir (discusscontribs) 07:08, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

The Scottish Tragedy, otherwise known as Macbeth, is a play that is performed throughout the world. It is also read, examined and presented in classrooms at many colleges, high schools and universities. The irony is that it is more commonly read than performed even though it was never meant to be analysed to the extent that it is.

This wikibook does what Shakespeare would recoil at - it analyses and explores the methods, the moods, the ideas and the behaviour of the characters in Macbeth.

Macbeth: The Character

Macbeth is a general that leads Duncan's army to war against the Norwegian King. He is the ideal war hero- the man who fights bravely and elicits commendations from his friends and foes alike. What is interesting is that the brave general is superstitious and fears the appearance of 3 ladies who suddenly stop him on his way back from the front lines. His fear is really two-fold. Is he the man who is afraid of the witches spelling out the secrets of his mind- spilling them in front of Banquo? Or is he the one that fears being faced with his own secret ambitions?
