US History/Hope
woke
[edit | edit source]Originating from African-American English, the term "woke" has been used since the 1930s or before to describe awareness of racial bias and discrimination, frequently in the formulation stay woke phrase. By the 1970s, the phrase had taken on political overtones, and the hashtag #staywoke helped it become even more well-known in the 2010s. With time, the term "woke" evolved to describe a more general awareness of social injustices like sexism and the rejection of LGBTQ rights. Additionally, Woke has served as a shorthand for a number of American Leftist concepts related to identity politics and social justice, including white privilege and American slavery reparations.
hope
[edit | edit source]The problems faced by America today often have their roots in earlier struggles in American history. American history is not yet over, and you can be a part of it. Use your talents and constitutional liberties like freedom of speech to help enrich the lives of others as well as yourself, and American will be a better place for all.
