SDLC or System Development Life Cycle is a flow chart that describes the development of a system from the time it is first studied until the time it is updated or replaced. System development typically consists of six steps: Preliminary investigation, System Analysis, System Design, System Acquisition, System Implication, and System Maintenance. These six steps are what make a SDLC. The basic function of a SDLC is to keep organized and be able to lay out neatly the process of system development. Each step consists of some type of documentation that carries forward to the next step of the cycle. Each step discusses the development of the next step in the cycle. These charts help to document the progress made during each step of the system development process.[1]
