Usage[edit source]

Add {{dubious}} after a specific statement or alleged fact that is subject to dispute (your own or someone else's).

For an entire disputed page, use {{disputed}}.

It is best to simultaneously try to resolve the dispute on the discussion page. To refer to a specific discussion page section, use {{dubious|discussion page section name}}. If the dispute does not have a discussion page section yet (e.g. because it has been argued in edit summaries), please create one.

This template is not for flagging items that an editor simply thinks might be incorrect or unsourced. This is what {{citation needed}} is for. It is for statements that are subject to ongoing dispute among editors, e.g. due to conflicting sources or doubts about sources' reliability. The purposes of this template are:

  • To warn readers that a statement in the text may not be accurate
  • To alert editors that additional sources need to be found, to ascertain which of the conflicting views in the dispute is more authoritative

Do not add this template to a page more than a reasonable number of times. Please consider voicing concerns on the discussion page instead.

Parameters[edit source]

  • date: the month and year when the template was added. Like this: {{dubious|date=April 2024}}
  • It is also common to use a dummy |reason= parameter to add a little extra explanation.
