What Student Congress is[edit | edit source]

Student Congress (Legislative debate) is a high school co-curricular imitating our US Congress. It provides students with the opportunity to combine the traditional oratory skills of speech and debate with the interpersonal skills of working and negotiating with others. As members of congress, students are offered the chance to think and reflect on some of the most difficult and important issues facing the world today. In a number of ways, Student Congress provides an education that can exceed the typical education received by many students in the classroom. The active and engaging environment of congress challenges students to consider, analyze, and articulate public policy ideas and positions.
