Religious Headcoverings/Judaism

Orthodox Jewish married women follow the teaching of certain rabbis over the centuries and in their everyday life keep their heads covered out of modesty. Interestingly enough, unmarried women are not under this religious obligation.

Scarves and hats are used by these married women, as might be expected, but in the Hassidic tradition wigs are also used to cover the head. Thus we have the ironic situation that a woman whose hair is not her best feature might wear an attractively styled wig made from real hair that looks natural and enhances her looks - and this out of religious obligation.
