Dial-up[edit | edit source]

There are two types of dial-up modems, software (extremely common) and hardware. Most software modems (winmodems) have poor support under Linux so consider buying an external (hardware) serial modem. Puppy Linux supports software modems with chipsets of either Lucent Linmodem or Smart-Link.
