Not much of an upgrade over Weapon 1, but it fires two streams of bullets instead of one. Most advanced players skip over this and save their money for at least Weapon 3.
Helper
The Helper (AKA: Wingman) is an extra ship that stays to your side. It fires using a weapon which is 4 times as powerful as Weapon 1 and fires approximately 4 shots per second. You can only have one Helper at a time. Purchasing a Helper while you already have one will result in healing the helper.
Upgrade
The Upgrade allows you to hold down the fire button, instead of rapidly pressing it. It is best combined with Weapon 5. The Upgrade also upgrades Weapon 1 to double its power.
Weapon 3

Weapon 3 shoots three bullets in a spray fashion, with one going straight ahead and the remaining two firing at 30 degree angles to the first.

Not quite as powerful as Weapon 5, but it will still get you through the tougher levels if you have enough skill. However, because it does not spread much, sometimes it is better to use Weapon 3.

Weapon 5 is the most powerful weapon in Phoenix. Capable of destroying enemies at a very fast rate. When combined with Upgrade, it is pretty much unstoppable.
Enemy 1
"Enemy 1" is the first enemy you encounter. It appears on levels 1, 2, and 3. It shoots the equivalent of Weapon 1, a 2x2 pixel bullet, straight forward. It has 2 Hit Points.
