The REAP strategy stands for Read, Encode, Annotate and Ponder. It is a strategy for students to understand a text (or their notes).

  • READ - To understand the basic message of the author
  • ENCODE the message by writing it in your own words
  • ANNOTATE the text by writing down the main ideas (notes, significant words, quotes) and summarise the author’s message
  • PONDER what you read by thinking and talking with others, in order to make personal connections, develop questions about the topic, and/or connect this reading to other reading you have done
