Manipuri language (Meitei language) is the official language of Manipur and one of the 22 scheduled languages recognised by the Constitution of India

Meitei (ꯃꯩꯇꯩ ꯂꯣꯟ) or Manipuri (ꯃꯅꯤꯄꯨꯔꯤ) is one of the ancient Sino-Tibetan languages of the world. It is the predominantly spoken language and the medium of communication of all the ethnic groups of Kangleipak (officially known as "Manipur"). It is the most widely spoken Indian language belonging to the Sino-Tibetan family (a greater linguistic branch of "Tibeto-Burman family"). Meitei speaking population is also found scattered in Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It has around 3 million speakers among which 2 million are L1 and 1 million is L2.
