Mathematical Methods of Physics/Foreword

This is a textbook of common methods of applied mathematics that are often used by physicists. Knowledge of basic calculus and analysis is assumed. Although the book covers all the linear algebra required, it is recommended that the reader have at least some previous exposure to this subject. Familiarity with topology and measure theory/functional analysis may be helpful in some of the later chapters. Exposure to introductory level physics is sufficient.

Authors are encouraged to maintain the level of mathematics as "fairly rigorous", to minimise the amount of hand-waving. Thus the reader will be at an advantage if he/she has experience with mathematical proofs.
