Electrons, although classically considered to be particles, can be shown to behave like waves as well. This is extremely important as it allows a whole new approach to analysing the behaviour of electrons. The so-called two-slit experiment demonstrates the wave-like properties of the electron:

Once we have seen that electrons can behave like waves, we can begin to derive their properties:
