Zambia[edit]

  • The first meter was installed in 1951 while the country was the British possession of Northern Rhodesia. In 1953 the British merged Northern Rhodesia with their other colonies of Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland into the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. In 1963 the Federation dissolved. Northern Rhodesia became independent and a year later changed it’s name to ZAMBIA. For issues during the period of federation, see RHODESIA & NYASALAND.
  • The stamps are grouped according to political inscription and appearance:
A – NORTHERN RHODESIA before the Federation
B – NORTHERN RHODESIA after the Federation
C – ZAMBIA with eagle logo (£sd currency)
D – ZAMBIA without eagle logo (decimal currency)
