Cayman Islands[edit | edit source]

  • The earliest meter stamp seen is from 1969. All stamps have “CAYMAN ISLANDS” or “GRAND CAYMAN” either in the frank or the town mark.

1. Pitney Bowes-GB “5000” (MV), 1970. [$100]

Horizontal frank with simulated-perforation outer border inscribed “JAMAICA” in top panel.
“GRAND CAYMAN W. I.” is in bottom of TM.
M# with “P.B.” prefix at bottom between TM and frank.
This is a provisional design used before the first Pitney Bowes franks inscribed “CAYMAN ISLANDS” were used.

As Type 1 but with “CAYMAN ISLANDS” in top panel.
M# with “P.B.” prefix.

Upright frank with crown at bottom center.
M# with “S” prefix in boxes in lower corners.
Meters S1 and S2 only.

NOTE: In 2009 this stamp with 1969 date (pictured) was reported. This makes Type 4 the earliest meter stamp design used in the Cayman Islands.

Plain rectangular frank with single straight-line border.
Inscribed “CAYMAN/ ISLANDS” at top, M# at bottom.
Meters RN 001 and RN 002 only.
V/F: 000

6. Pitney Bowes-GB “6300” (MV), 1976.]

Horizontal frank, straight lines at top and bottom with small indentations at the ends.
No border lines at sides.
M# with “P.B.” prefix centered above bottom frame line, 003 and up.
Crown at top right.

Similar to Type 6 but larger, without crown, with Post Office logo in box at top left.

Frank similar to Type 7 but with two columns of numbers at left of the town mark.
The date and value figures are quite different from Type 7.
M# with “PB” prefix.
