The dwarven nation was split into 13 clans, one ruling clan and 12 other clans to support the rulers. Each clan was composed of a number of dwarven families. All clans were interlinked and held a specific function within society. To emphasize the difference between each clan, most clans operated independently in specific areas, with general matters and overall cohesion overseen by the king. Each clan had its own clan chief, or Grimstborith, who presided over matters concerning the individual families.

A dwarf criminal may also, depending on the severity of his crime, be cast out of his clan and be named vargrimst, causing him to be completely ignored by all dwarves.

The thirteen Dwarf clans were as follows:
