History of wireless telegraphy and broadcasting in Australia/Topical/Publications/Commonwealth Gazette

Introduction

Many persons involved in the wireless and broadcasting, amateur and professional were federal public servants, principally the Postmaster-General's Department. Some had only brief stays, others were career public servants. Complete lists of permanent officers were published from time to time in the Commonwealth Gazette, generally annually. NLA's Trove has digitally published all issues of the Gazette, but relevant lists of officers can be difficult to locate, especially when there are OCR errors in the name of the person being researched. The following index is being created progressively to assist in identification of career points for individual staff.

There is considerable data provided in these lists pertaining to each individual, including:

date of commencement with the State Department (if service commenced prior to federalisation of the State Post and Telegraph Services)
date of commencement with the Commonwealth Department
title of position within the PMGD or predecessor
grade or class of the position within the PMGD
branch or section of the position
salary scale and actual salary
