Chapter 69

On March 19, 1931, the headline in The Weems Weekly reads, "Sad News for All of Us." Idgie's mother has died. The article mentions that their father passed away the year before. After the service, everyone went over to the Threadgoode house to pay his or her respects. Dot reminisces about the home and that she and Wilbur were dating with Ninny and Cleo. She states that everyone will miss her.

Analysis[edit]

The theme of death and loss is again seen in this chapter. Mrs. Threadgoode has passed away. Although the article mentions their father's death, it has not been mentioned before now. Idgie has lost her parents and most loved sibling, but has Ruth back.
