Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe/Chapter 2

Chapter 2

This chapter takes place on December 15, 1985 in Rose Terrace Nursing Home in Birmingham, Alabama. Evelyn Couch is at the nursing home visiting her mother in law with her husband Ed. Evelyn escapes her husband and mother in law and goes to the lounge. When she sits down, the old woman next to her begins to talk. Mrs. Threadgoode is eighty-six years old, but says she didn't realize how old she was until last June when she was in the hospital for gallbladder surgery and saw her age on her armband.

Mrs. Threadgoode tells Evelyn she is only in the nursing home temporarily until her friend, Mrs. Otis gets settled in, and then she is going home to Whistle Stop.
