In the course of a pregnancy, the pregnant woman is often given the choice to keep the fetus and have the child, or terminate the pregnancy. There are several issues associated with abortion:

• The trimester of the pregnancy;
• The health of the fetus;
• The religious and ethical beliefs behind the mother;
• The laws of the state in which the mother resides;
• The attitude of the mother's family and the father of the fetus;

amongst many others.
