  1. Add boiling water from the kettle to a pot, and bring to a boil again.
  2. Mix the maize meal and cold water in a separate bowl to form a thick mixture.
  3. Add the cold mixture and salt to the boiling pot of water, and stir until the soft porridge starts bubbling and is thick.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, and partially close the lid. Cook for 20 minutes.
  5. Serve with margarine, milk, and/or sugar if desired.
