The term each is a unit of measurement equivalent to one whole unit of a designated item. It is abbreviated as ea. For example, instead of writing "2 lemons" a cook may write "2 ea. lemons" or "lemons, 2 ea." to designate two whole lemons. It is convenient to use eaches when listing multiple units next to each other, such as in "5 ea. / 1 lb / 450 g carrots," to avoid confusion by the omission of a unit.
