Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) (Networking) is a system of protocols that uses abbreviated routing information based on the devices and connections of a single Internet Service Provider (ISP). These abbreviated codes are then attached to an IP message to improve the speed and efficiency of internally routed messages. The protocols and their overall use are documented by the IETF in RFC3031.
