In The Little Review dia occurred at the end of a line and was joined by a hyphen to retta, which also makes no sense.[5] The 1922 text, however, is good Italian and needs no emending. Artifoni is using the third person singular imperative of dare (dia retta a me = give heed to me); in Italian the third person singular is used as a polite form of address.
