The first attempt to create an interactive multimedia product can be overwhelming without the benefit of previous experience. Paralysis sets in early when developers start to wonder if they're collecting the right kind of media to be accessed by interactive users.

Interactive content development is confusing because it is so similar to and yet not the same as conventional, traditional, linear media (i.e. a video documentary). All of the skills required for conventional media are required, but additional skills and different thought processes are also required.

Interactive multimedia story telling can typically require a link from still photos, to a web site, to a six second video clip and then to a PDF document. Just visualizing this mix of disparate media types can be disorienting.
