William the First, or William the Conqueror was the first Norman king of England. He invaded England in 1066, after winning the Battle of Hastings. He was also the duke of Normandy. He had several children, including the next duke of Normandy and two of the English kings. He was married to Matilda of Flanders. He was an illegitimate son of Robots the Magnificent and Herleva of Falaise. He was born in 1028 and died on the 9 September 1087, when he was aged about 59.
