[edit] Required hardware
- A PC or laptop with a wired ethernet adapter and a wireless card
- A wireless access point - this device connects to your existing network to provide access to it from wireless clients
[edit] Getting started
- 1. Plug the access point into the wall
- Connect the power adapter that came with the access point to a wall socket, and plug the other end into the access point. Do not connect your access point to your network yet.
- 2. Connect the computer to the wireless access point
- This can usually be done either wirelessly or through an ethernet cable. If connecting wirelessly, use the computer to scan for wireless networks. The network for your access point will usually be either the manufacturer name (e.g. "linksys", "netgear") or "default", or possibly the model number of the access point.
- If connecting to the access point through an ethernet cable, connect one end of the cable to your computer and the other end to the access point.
