Overview

[edit | edit source]

Warrington (no first name) appears to be a Chaser in the Slytherin Quidditch team. He is physically largely-built and is two years ahead of Harry at Hogwarts.

Role in the Books

[edit | edit source]
Beginner warning: Details follow which you may not wish to read at your current level.

Warrington is mentioned as being a Chaser in the Slytherin team and takes part in some Quidditch matches. No other details are given about him.

There is a rumour that Warrington, "the big bloke who looks like a sloth", has put his name in the Goblet of Fire, to try to be a champion in the Triwizard Tournament. The rumour is never confirmed, but at least it gives some indication of his age.

After Fred and George depart the school, there are a number of attacks against Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad, of which Warrington is a member. It is mentioned that he goes to the Hospital Wing with a skin condition that makes him look as if he were coated in cornflakes.

When Umbridge catches Harry in her office, where he has been trying to determine whether Sirius has gone to the Ministry, she also sets the Inquisitorial Squad to round up his helpers. Warrington reports that they had also brought Neville, because he interfered when they were trying to bring in Ginny.

Strengths

[edit | edit source]

Warrington is strong and imposing, and as a Chaser on the Slytherin team, must be relatively skilled at Quidditch. As detailed in "Analysis" below, he is also one of the oldest students in the year.

Weaknesses

[edit | edit source]

Warrington, along with the rest of the Squad, are overcome by the small consignment of DA members they are trying to hold in Umbridge's office. Ron's offhand tone seems to suggest this was quite easy.

Relationships with Other Characters

[edit | edit source]

Warrington is familiar with the other members of Slytherin House, the Inquisitorial Squad, and the Slytherin Quidditch team, of which he is a member.

Analysis

[edit | edit source]

Warrington (allegedly) puts his name into the Goblet of Fire, which indicates he must be 17 by this point, yet he is still at Hogwarts in the following year. This suggests that he must have a birthday in the early autumn, before the Goblet was revealed - otherwise he would have graduated by the end of the year, and certainly not be in the Inquisitorial Squad the following year.

Questions

[edit | edit source]

Study questions are meant to be left for each student to answer; please don't answer them here.

  1. How old is Warrington?
  2. How long do you think he will be in the Quidditch team for?

Greater Picture

Intermediate warning: Details follow which you may not wish to read at your current level.

Unlike many of the other teams in the series, the Slytherin Quidditch team appears to have something of a "revolving door" policy when it comes to membership, with players coming and going quite rapidly throughout the five books in which we see Quidditch being played. In his first appearance, Warrington is just another one of those Slytherin Quidditch players, although since the reader has no idea how long he has been on the team for, he may well have been doing this for some time.
