'First of all, we will explain the concept of ‘Home page’ and ‘the ‘Front page Component' in Mambo: Your "Home page" is the same as your "Front page".
Front page is not clearly defined in official Help... see Managing your Home page using the Front page Component
The Front page is the Component that publishes content to Your Home page (i.e. first page of site) as long as the Front page Component is the first Menu Item in your Main Menu.
You can assign any Content Item to the Home page by checking the parameter "Front page" within the "Edit" Content Item page (in the Back-end as in the Front-end of your site).
