Guyana
[edit | edit source]- The first meter was installed in 1936 while the country was the British colony of British Guiana. In 1966 it became an independent country within the British Commonwealth and changed its name to GUYANA.
- The stamps are grouped according to inscription and use:
- A - “BRITISH GUIANA”
- B - “GUYANA”
- PO - Stamps generated by special meters used within post offices

- Very wide spacing between TM and frank containing 6-digit impression counter number.

A4. Universal “MultiValue” (MV), 1949.
- Frank similar to Type A3 but M# with “U” prefix.
- Spacing between TM and frank not as wide.

- Very similar to Type A4C but the value figures are of even thickness, and it has no vertical line between the “$” and the “¢”.

- Horizontal design with widely spaced simulated perforations in the outer border.
- Country name at top left with large crown between “BRITISH” and “GUIANA”.
- “PARCEL POST” boxed at center with post office name below.
- Meter number “U1” in small box at top right.
- V/F: 0oo
PO2. Universal “MultiValue” (MV). [$25 for proof, $200 on cover]
- Similar to Type PO1 but with double straight line border and with “REGISTRATION” boxed at center.
- Meter number “U1” only.
- V/F: 0oo
NOTES:
- Types PO1 and PO2 are from the same machine which generated different stamp designs for various postal services. Other designs for services other than parcel post and registration may exist but are not known.
- Proofs generated for the Universal Postal Union are more often found than postally used examples which are quite rare, especially on cover.
