Burkina Faso
[edit | edit source]Originally a French-controlled territory, the Republic of Upper Volta, became independent in 1960. At this time the official name became formally the Voltaic Republic. In 1984 the name was changed to Burkina Faso. For issues before 1960, see FRENCH WEST AFRICA. The stamps are divided into three groups based on the country designation in the frank:
- A - inscribed “REPUBLIQUE DE HAUTE VOLTA”
- B - inscribed “REPUBLIQUE VOLTAIQUE”
- C - inscribed “BURKINA FASO”
