English: Image for Wikibooks – Artificial Intelligence for Computational Sustainability: A Lab Companion
Computational sustainability employs computing, information, and communications sciences and technologies to address challenges of societal and environmental sustainability, balancing ecological concerns with economic and other societal concerns. Specifically, this image shows representations of ecology or the natural environment; equity, dignity, and productivity for all human beings; and economics, highlighting energy in this composite image. Along the base is an Internet map, highlighting the promise of digital technology for creating a connected planet, sustainably balanced along the three Es of ecology, equity, and economy, terms used, for example, in McDonough and Braungart's Cradle to Cradle Design, but reflecting generally the pervasive trio of sustainability concepts: environment, society, and economy. This composite photo is the first logo of Artificial Intelligence for Computational Sustainability: A Lab Companion. The text's Guide for Contributors suggests that others may create logos and other images for some of the chapters, sections, and subsections.
