Rather than moving the queen to d8 or a5 after Nc3, the Gubinsky-Melts Defense opts to keep the queen in the center of the board, controlling many important squares, but allowing the queen to be a more ideal target compared to the queen going all the way back to d8 or a5, where it is tucked into a safer square.
