Hello Lwill031,

I was skimming through these friendly about me profiles and came across your page. It seems as though we have lots in common, so I figured this would be an easy response. I also love the beach and have two mouthy hound dogs that keep me on my toes. They love a good, quiet beach and constantly require something to burn off all that extra energy. My dachshund is hilarious however, while his tiny legs just sink in the sand. They love their long walks though. (I think I love them too.) :D

Let’s see...I am originally from Western MD and then the Shenandoah Valley. However, once I came to the ocean, I figured there was no turning back. I also have a huge passion for cooking and a wonderful boyfriend who appreciates that. I have worked in restaurants for a long time, and although a not so fabulous career, I have learned many valuable "tricks of the trade". Nonetheless, I am always up for a new recipe. I graduated from ODU in 2004 with the same Psychology/Human Services degree. It seems as though you have put it to better use than I have. I really wanted to work with at risk teenagers, but found it difficult to obtain an okay paying job with my bachelors. So...here I am, happily pursuing my prek-6 licensure and then hopefully my masters in school counseling. Let's see...you had me until the kindergarten grade. I can really appreciate the impact kindergarten teachers have on emotional development, but am more of a 3rd grade teacher myself. I love the little ones and am hoping to soon teach the kindergarten class at my church. However, at the end of the day, I think I have a niche with third graders who still love their teachers, but are also ready to explore the world on their own. Lastly, I could not agree with you more about the ways in which you will structure your classroom. I feel children, especially at that age, need all forms of activities to engage their senses. Colors, music, dancing...fun and happiness. I also believe however, that amidst all the happiness, we must also send our students home with better emotion regulation skills, coping strategies, and preparation for everything the world has to offer.

Take care, have a wonderful summer, and a successful semester. Autumn Abitt002 (talk) 22:17, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,Lyndsey

I loved reading your philosophy on education. It was great hearing from someone who has been in the classroom already and has seen first hand what it is like. I too love working with kids. I have ran a daycare out of my home for the past four years. I am pursuing the PreK-6 liscensure. It sounds like you will be a wonderful teacher and love every minute of it.
