Re:Thank you[edit source]

It's no problem, I'm happy to help and I'm happy to see new books being written. Uploading images is typically very easy, and the amount of information that we require is small. The upload form has a box to select the license of the image, and a summary section. If the image is free (GFDL, CC-BY-SA, etc) you don't really need to include a lot of information besides the license itself. However, if your images are fair-use (which would likely be the case for screenshots of copyrighted software) you do need to provide a little bit more information about the source of the image and the reason why you can't use a free alternative (because you have to show images of this software in a book about the software).

If you have a lot of images, and the images are similarly-licensed, you might consider looking at a program called Commonist. It's an image uploading program that does much of the work automatically, and can copy+paste the necessary licensing information on each new image for you. I've never seen it used here, but I've heard it's supposed to be able to upload images to Wikibooks too. Some time tomorrow you should be autoconfirmed (log says you created the account on the 10th), so if you get the software figured out by then you can upload all the images in one quick click.

I hope this is helpful to you, let me know if you need anything else. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 13:25, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:QW3Add image.png is missing license or source information[edit source]

This message box is using an invalid "type=warning" parameter and needs fixing.
Please check all the images you have just uploaded, as they are all missing source, license and permission info.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 03:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Watch every page[edit source]

There are a few ways to do this. The easiest way is to use Special:RecentChangesLinked, which shows you all the recent changes to pages which are linked from a given page. In the case of a book, you can do this to the main TOC, which should link all or most of the pages in the book. Here's a link you should copy for your own use:

Just as a side note, it's okay to watch changes and to be "hands-on". It's not alright to try to control the book or to restrict access to it. Wikibooks is open and collaborative, and the best results come from books which allow many volunteers to participate, and get many points of view. The same freedom that you've had in authoring this book must be afforded to other people who want to contribute to it now. I'm certainly not accusing you of anything, just trying to point out a fine line that many editors are not aware of.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, good luck with your project, and congratulations on writing such a nice book. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 15:51, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:PDF Version[edit source]

Unfortunately, you aren't doing anything wrong. We've had a problem with uploaded PDF files for some time now, and nobody seems to know what's causing it. I would use an Image: link instead of a Media: link, to see if that approach works better.

On a side note, we are going to be getting a PDF extension for the website here that will allow us to make and download PDFs directly from the website. I dont know when it will be installed here, but the WMF is currently testing it on other websites. Once that happens, your problem should be solved. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 13:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting pages[edit source]

Thanks for your contributions, but please don't blank pages. Tag pages that qualify for speedy deletion with {{delete|<reason>}} or nominate the book at Wikibooks:Votes for deletion. See Special:ShortPages for a few pages that you blanked. --Swift (talk) 05:14, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think these are pages that I blanked but rather pages that I created in error during my first bungling days on Wikibooks and then couldn't find them again..... I will mark them for deletion. When you say "a few pages" does that mean that there are more lurking somewhere? If so, how do I find them? Hskeet (talk) 10:22, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
These should be all of your blankings. You can find all your contributions through the my contributions link in the upper-right corner (on the default skin). --Swift (talk) 11:36, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo - yes sorry you are right to delete this. See above message - I thought I had deleted all the unused pages. Hskeet (discusscontribs) 10:39, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

some unused files...[edit source]

Hi, I'm relative new to en.wikibooks, but I have collected experience at enwp and at commons. I saw that you still contributing more or less regular, do you still need the files (only the ones you uploaded) listed at Special:UnusedFiles? All files uploaded by you are using a fair use banner and thus should either be transcluded on any page or should get deleted... mabdul 19:29, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo - I usually upload and use files in a page in one of the manuals... sometimes I have uploaded a new image (software update) so the old image will now be unused and can be deleted. Do you want me to delete them or will you? Hskeet (discusscontribs) 10:37, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Neither of us can. We aren't administrators. :( But I will take care of them. ;-) mabdul 17:17, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Global account[edit source]

Hi Hskeet! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, DerHexer (discusscontribs) 18:17, 14 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
