About The Author

My name is Jasmine Tucay, and I am currently a fourth year student at Old Dominion University. My major is Elementary Education, but I'm aiming to teach at the PreK - 3 level. I graduated from Landstown High School, class of 2005, which is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I love kids and have been working with them as early as I can remember. I'm very involved at my church, Tidewater Christian Church of Christ. I'm a sunday school teacher there, and I am also a worship leader. In addition to leading songs at church, I love singing anything, and everywhere. I enjoy spending my free time knitting, singing, and spending time with my family, friends and my significant other.

Teaching Philosophy

Being a teacher is very important to me. One main idea that I think in important in teaching is having student-centered learning. I'm big on having a student be able to explore new possibilites and be able to discover a concept for himself or herself. Along with this, I feel that a student should be fully engaged in what they're learning about. Whether it be the math, science or history, I feel that students should be immersed, in a sense with what they're learning about. When I become a teacher, I want it to be more then just teaching about the basics, I want to instill good values and have a full learning experience. This teaching philosophy is definitely a work in progress, but I feel that I will be adding new beliefs to it every time I get the chance to.
