English: CO2 molecules have quadrupole-quadrupole interactions with each other. The central carbon carries a partial positive charge, which the terminal oxygens carry partial positive charges. The like-charge atoms have repulsive electrostatic interactions (+/+ and -/-) while the oppositely-charged atoms have attractive electrostatic interactions (+/-). |
