A milligram or milligramme (in older BE) is a unit of mass in the metric system, it is one thousandth of a gram. Milligram is a compound word of two root words combined together: "milli" and "gram." Its symbol is mg.
For purposes of cooking, "mass" can be conceived as interchangeable with "weight."
