Basic Language is a high level computer language that was intrroducd with the PC in the 1960s. BASIC is an acronym for Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. Basic was originally an interpreted language, but compilers were soon introduced. While there is an ANSI Standard Basic, most vendors use proprietary extensions. There is a subset or similar language used in Web pages called Basic Script. Microsoft platform applications include another subset called Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). The .BAS file extension is frequently used for Basic source code.
