The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) in the United States is a toll-free, confidential and anonymous provider of counseling to victims of rape and sexual assault.
RAINN was founded in 1994 by Scott Berkowitz, the organization's president. RAINN has attracted the attention of many celebrities, notably singer Tori Amos, who contributed a portion of the initial funding. She has remained their most avid spokesperson and a great deal of the attention brought to the organization comes from her fanbase. Some of the funding to RAINN comes from the "Happy Birthday, Tori" parties; a series of fundraising events held throughout the world on (or around) the date of Amos' birthday.
