Frikadelle, are the South African version of meatballs. Made of ground beef, ostrich, lamb, fish, pork, or veal, onions, eggs, salt and pepper, they are formed into balls and flattened somewhat. They are then pan-fried in butter, margarine or even vegetable oil.
Ingredients

- Ground meat (e.g. beef, ostrich, lamb, fish, pork, or veal)
- Chopped onion
- Eggs
- Mustard
- Stock cube
- Fresh chopped parsley
- Ground pepper
- Olive oil
Procedure
[edit | edit source]- Soak the bread in water, then squeeze out the water.
- In a bowl, combine the meat, onion, eggs, bread, mustard, stock cube, parsley, and pepper. Knead until you get an even mixture.
- Form meat mixture into flat patties no bigger than the palm of your hand.
- Pan-fry the patties in a skillet of olive oil until cooked through.
