Re:Wikijunior[edit source]

Wikijunior doesn't allow fiction, but we have been willing to explore things like allegory, teaching a lesson using metaphores. A generic children's book wouldn't be acceptable on Wikijunior, but a "fable" or a narrated textbook of some sort might be. What kinds of ideas do you have? --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 23:31, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alphabetical Tag[edit source]

Hello Jkauf, how are you? I'm glad to see your project is ramping up for the new semester again. It's always a pleasure to watch you and your students work.

The {{alphabetical}} tag on your book is part of an organizational effort here at Wikibooks. It serves a dual purpose: Allowing books to be found by name at WB:ABC, and allowing us to count the number of books we have here at wikibooks. This template puts books into a category based on the first letter of it's title, and we can count all the books in all categories to get a rough count. Due to technical limitations, we don't have any better way of counting our books here. Here's the current count calculated in this way: 3,453. Keep in mind that the MediaWiki software was originally designed for Wikipedia, not Wikibooks, and so it doesnt offer all the features that a book-based site would like.

The {{Alphabetical|F}} tag should exist somewhere on the front page of your book, not in any sub-pages. This is because we obviously only want to count the book once, and not count every page in the book as being a separate book. User:Dallas1278 was interested in getting involved here and was following my advice in alphabetizing pages. Any mistakes he made in this were likely caused by my failure to really explain the task. Once he got started, he was off like a rocket.

Anyway, Please don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions or if you need anything. A lot can happen around here between semesters. Good luck with your work this semester and again, I'm here if you need any help. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 02:10, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Peer Review Pages[edit source]

Hello jkauf, I'd be happy to make any and all changes you need, and I can try to do them all by Sunday if necessary. My bot is set up so it can make multiple changes to a page at once. That way I can reduce the number of edits I need to make, and still do everything you need done. Of course, I can make changes separately too, if that's how it has to be done.

I'll take a look at that page you sent me and start setting up my bot to perform the task. I should have it ready to deploy within a day or two. Let me know when you know the rest of the edits to make. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 22:21, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jaime,

I hope you don't mind sending the steps or process in doing a "peer review" for the first article. Thanks a lot! Teachtheworld (talk) 03:42, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I had completed two (12.1.1, 6.1.4 ) by the due date, and signed up for three others ( 9.4.3, 10.3.2, 6.4.3 ) for extra credit. They are all now completed. I print off the articles and review template, and write it out by hand. I find this better and more effective. They are now completed. I had not emailed you about my extra credit, because I had not finished them. I will email you them now. I wasn’t aware we could not sign up for articles before completing the review, because for the assigned reviews we could. I signed up for them yesterday, so I could hand write the reviews after work. I did not someone tagging the ones I was working on. They are now typed, completed, and posted. I was under the assumption we had until Sunday to complete them. Sorry if I did it wrong. Hi Jamie, Actually, I was able to do the peer review already....one of the wikis administrators helped me figure it out. Should I go ahead and signed the next article? Thanks a lot, Jamie...Teachtheworld (talk) 01:10, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jamie, You left me a response to my article that it looked great but that you were concerned about if the picture was copyrighted. Just wanted to let you know that it is not copyrighted because I got it from the website that Dr. Kidd posted (flicker, creative commons) on the how to use this book page of websites that have pictures free of copyright. Maybe I should cite the picture as being from creative commons just to cover myself? Thanks, Ashley Alucy001 (talk) 20:35, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Editor Status[edit source]

I'll get on it today and try to fix this ASAP. Sorry it hasn't been resolved yet! --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 22:13, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Discussion pages problems[edit source]

The MediaWiki software has a lot of tools that can be used to avoid spam and stuff like that. Unfortunately, even innocuous changes can have negative effects in unforseen places. Let me double-check that no major settings have been changed since yesterday. I'll let you know what I find. --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 14:02, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, found the problem and got it fixed. The problem was that your page accidentally matched a pattern from our spam blacklist. User:Darklama removed the offending pattern from the blacklist, and you should be able to edit the page again like normal. Sorry for the inconvenience! --Whiteknight (Page) (Talk) 14:12, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is the message you asked me to send to get my username. Also, in response to the message you left on my talk page, I do too have answers to my multiple choice questions. I just checked again to make sure...thankss!!!Jstub007 (talk) 19:17, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
